I had to get gas in California yesterday and I paid $3.89/gal regular. That was one of the cheapest. Other stations ranged from 3.99 to $4.35.

“Make bets that have good investment odds and you'll win in the long run. Bet with bad investment odds and you'll eventually lose.”
“You can build a work life around deadlines. You can procrastinate, pay the late fines and push through the last minute emergencies because you need all of that in order to get to ‘have to’ mode.”

“This is how a corporate entity absolves itself of responsibility while nominally offering an apology.”
`Right now, pretty much the easiest way to communicate is via various internet-based tools, so they'll get used. But if it wasn't #Facebook / #WhatsApp, it would have been some other method of communications. It's not clear what good blocking these sites does, other than pointing the blame away from the government for a period of time.`
`The history of bitter infighting between Sri Lanka’s leaders appears to have contributed to a spectacular security breakdown that led to one of the world’s deadliest #terrorist attacks.`
`There's no surprise that some people can be led astray by lies and #propaganda - but, again, that's not new to the #internet. While the internet may have more overall scale, it's not as if "scale" was what was necessary to get a small group of people to set off suicide-bombs in Sri Lanka. And, frankly, the government has said that it had lots of warnings that an attack was imminent - in part because of #intelligence gathered on the internet.`
This is an overreaction. It's blaming the messenger app, rather than the root causes of the violence. There were tragedies & massacres in the era before social media. Awful people have used new methods of communication for awful purposes, but historically we didn't rush to blame the communications tool. 'Radio', you may recall, was credited with helping #Hitler's rise to power in #NaziGermany, but we didn't ban the radio. 'Television' has been blamed for "dividing" the US over the #VietnamWar
“Perhaps there's little surprise that the blame finger is quickly pointing to Facebook for these latest attacks”
`she would “prohibit public colleges from considering #citizenship status” during admissions decisions. Her plan would also “ban for-profit colleges from receiving any #federal dollars (including #military benefits and federal #studentloans), so they can no longer use taxpayer dollars to enrich themselves while targeting lower-income students, service members, and #students of color and leaving them saddled with debt.” Evidently, Warren would rather they become permanent wards of the state.`
“The country’s favorite 1/1024th #NativeAmerican and #Democrat presidential candidate #ElizabethWarren recently released her plan for tackling the growing problem of student-loan #debt. Currently running a disappointing third in her own state, Warren’s pitch is a desperate attempt to gain attention by running to the left of current Democrat frontrunner #BernieSanders.”

Wonder: are all those Google map cars doing more than making #maps? Could they be gathering intel? We saw this in #WWII - incredible how much effort was put into #disinformation. Entire armies were faked to feed misinformation to Axis powers. It worked.
Open office plans are the devil:
“If you are convinced that stuffing people into a room with little to no privacy leads to increased social interaction, you should start riding public transit during rush hour. ”
